We often find ourselves in front of the bananas in the fruit and vegetable aisle of the supermarket only to find that there are only unripe, green bananas left. That’s fine, of course, but if you want to consume these bananas that same day, you might feel a little bummed since they probably won’t taste very good. Want to know how you can make sure a green banana ripens within a single hour? Keep reading! There are three tricks to make green bananas ripen within one hour, two days or even two minutes.
1. One hour
First of all, we’re going to tell you how you can make sure bananas ripen within one hour. All you need for this simple trick is an oven. Place your green bananas onto a baking tray or oven rack and bake the bananas at 150 °C for one hour. Keep a close eye on the bananas while they’re in the oven. After an hour has gone by, take them out of the oven and let them cool in the fridge. You’ll see that your bananas will be soft, edible and deliciously ripe!
2. Two days
Got a little more time to let your bananas ripen? Then you can try this trick that will make green bananas go ripe within two days. Bananas release a gas called ethylene, which causes fruit to ripen more quickly. Place the bananas in a paper bag, so the gas they release can’t get away. This way, they will ripen more quickly. If you add other fruits like apples, pears or avocados to the bag, the ripening process can be sped up even more. After two days, your bananas will be ready to eat – and so will the other fruits in the bag!
3. Two minutes
The quickest way to make sure your green bananas ripen is this two-minute trick. For this one, you need a microwave instead of an oven. Use a fork to prick a few holes into the banana and then microwave it for about two minutes. The only downside to this trick is that the banana is now indeed a lot softer, but it still has the slightly bitter, unripe taste of a green banana.
