Two local residents were found dead outside in Rapid City

Rapid City, SD – According to the police report, foul play is not suspected. The 62-year-old Jason Sun Bear died Monday and the 38-year-old Dustin Sharp Butte died Wednesday.

According to the police officials, both are local residents and both have been homeless at the time of their deaths. The 62-year-old Jason Sun Bear was found Monday morning on the 600 block of Quincy Street.

Local residents called the police around 2 p.m. on Wednesday to say there was an unresponsive man in the parking lot of Motel 6 at 620 Latrobe Avenue. Officers found the man lying on the ground and began performing life-saving measures until medics arrived and pronounced him dead. The man was later identified as the 38-year-old Dustin Sharp Butte.

According to the police report, autopsies found no signs of trauma or foul play on either of the men. Their formal causes of death will be determined once toxicology reports come back but evidence gathered during the investigation leads law enforcement to believe Sharp Butte died of a medical incident.
