Armed standoff in Rapid City comes to an end after suspect surrendered himself when K-9 was deployed

Rapid City, S.D. – According to the police officials, this incident occurred on Saturday.

RCPD received a 911 call of a man attempting to assault several people with a knife.

When law enforcement arrived, several people came out of the residence. The suspect, still armed with the knife, barricaded himself in the basement.

From behind a closed door, the suspect threatened to shoot officers if they attempted to apprehend him.

Officers attempted to deescalate the situation verbally for an extended period of time, however, the suspect remained threatening and noncompliant.

PSD Max was deployed to assist with taking the offender into custody.

Several K-9 announcements were made to the offender, requesting he surrender. PSD Max remained quiet during these announcements, leading the offender to believe we were “Bluffing.” Officers’ forced entry into the room and PSD Max was deployed inside.

The offender’s quick surrender saved him from meeting PSD Max on a personal level.

He was taken into custody without further incident.
