Rapid City reminds residents of final swimming days as pool season comes to an end

Rapid City, S.D. – Rapid City officials reminded residents that the summer swimming season is coming to an end, with Horace Mann and Parkview pools scheduled to close after Thursday.

The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department said the closures are being made as schools prepare to resume classes and many seasonal employees leave for high school and college commitments.

The Jimmy Hilton Sioux Park pool will remain open through Sept. 6 but will begin operating under an adjusted schedule.

Beginning Friday, the pool will be open from noon to 7 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday through Thursday, operating hours will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Roosevelt Swim Center’s 50-meter outdoor pool will remain open longer than the city’s other pools, with the final day of the season scheduled for Sept. 26.

Residents will also have one more opportunity to visit the Sioux Park pool before it closes for the season during the 11th annual Wags and Waves event hosted by the Humane Society of the Black Hills.

The event is scheduled for Labor Day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. After the event concludes, the water will be drained from the pool.

City officials encouraged residents to take advantage of the remaining days of the swimming season before the facilities close for the year.
