Rapid City unveils design for new fire station, police substation and community park

Rapid City, S.D. – Rapid City officials shared a new rendering of a project that will bring a fire station, police substation and city park to the growing east side of the city.

According to the Rapid City Fire Department, the new public safety complex will be located near Homestead Street and Neel Street and will combine fire and police services in a single location.

Plans for the project also include an adjacent city park featuring green space, walking paths and recreational opportunities for residents.

City officials said the development will provide both expanded public safety services and additional community amenities for the east side of Rapid City.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the project is scheduled for Aug. 24 at 2 p.m.

The Rapid City Fire Department said it wanted to share the rendering after receiving several questions from residents about what the new facilities and park would look like.

Officials said they were excited to see the project move from the planning stage to construction and eventually become a new public safety and community resource for Rapid City.
